Project Description

This project calls for the installation of electronic entrance gate access control systems at Portsmouth Marine Terminal (PMT) and Newport News Marine Terminal (NNMT). When complete, the project will allow Port Police to physically control entry/exit into the terminal, document personnel entering and exiting the facility, verify that personnel have a legitimate purpose to be on the marine terminal, record the entrance and exit times for all individuals on the terminal, and record vehicle license plates, container numbers and chassis numbers.

These systems may include traffic control arm/gate; driver communication pedestals with call button, intercom, speaker and microphone; proximity card reader; loop detectors and cameras to record the driver's face, container, overhead view, chassis, and license plate. Other components may include a Gate Control Console to be installed in existing buildings, a lane directional console, computers for interface with VPA and VIT databases and integration software.

Task Order A comprises all work to be performed at PMT. Task Order B comprises all work at NNMT.

This project is funded by a TSA Port Security Grant.

Current Estimated Construction Costs:
Portsmouth Marine Terminal (PMT): $628,000
Newport News Marine Terminal (NNMT): $270,000
