Project Description

This project is a follow-on to Phase I of the Central Rail Project to double the capacity of the existing rail yard at Norfolk International Terminal.  The project includes demolition of an old warehouse and removal of the utilities to make way for the new rail yard, followed by the installation of six new rail lines for loading containerized cargo.  The rail work expansion will add approximately 13,000 linear feet of railroad track and have heavy duty concrete pavement for port vehicles transporting containers from the ship cranes to the rail yard.. The project also includes upgrades to the water, drainage, sanitary, electrical and communication systems.

The project is funded through ARRA in conformance with the requirements of FHWA and VDOT.

Estimated Construction Cost: $10,100,000
