NIT Main Gate Rail Yard Rebuild

Project Description

The purpose of this project is to rebuild track 4 and complete critical repairs to tracks 2 and 3 at the NIT Main Gate rail yard. The lap switch at Hampton Blvd. will be replaced as will the switch that leads to tracks four and five. Track four, from the second switch to the crossover to track five near vehicle maintenance will be rebuilt with new ties and rail. Tracks two and three will have new ties placed at all track joints, and every fifth tie will also be replaced. In addition, any “Dutchmen” in tracks two and three will be replaced. All splice bars and switches will be checked to insure the bolts are tight.

Current Estimated Construction Cost: $1,018,000

Current Status

Construction is underway. The main gate yard repair/upgrade is complete except for the final ballast regulation. The contractor will activate new runaround track next week and proceed with remaining demo and yard track construction.
