Project Description | Current Status | Schedule | Project Team Last Updated: July 29, 2011 VPA is joining forces with the Department of Homeland Security's Domestic Nuclear Detection Office (DNDO) and Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) to test a new design that will increased speed and accuracy of containers destined for ramping onto outbound trains. The Straddle Portal Prototypes (SPPs), designed by Savannah River National Laboratory in Aiken, SC, are being transported to VIT soon to conduct a six month field test of the new design. Concurrently, the SPP will be tested with the Stream-of-Commerce (SoC) data collection in support of developing new and more efficient cargo operational models. The SPPs will be evaluated for a subset of suitability factors as part of the overall preventing radiological/nuclear terrorism mission on the Norfolk International Terminal and its environment. Savannah River Lab personnel will be on site this week to coordinate installation details. Signature of the Memorandum of Understanding is in the final stages in CBP's Washington office.
